Watch_Dogs® 2 PC Hardware Guide
Official requirements explained
The official minimum CPU for Watch_Dogs 2 is an Intel Core i5 2400s at 2.5 GHz or an AMD FX 6120 at 3.5 GHz. Today that roughly corresponds to very early entry-level processors such as the Intel Core i3-3220, so an older quad-core PC that still runs will usually meet the minimum.
For graphics, the minimum is an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660 or AMD Radeon HD 7870 with 2 GB of VRAM. That is roughly the AMD Radeon HD 7850 tier today. The recommended GPU is an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780 or AMD Radeon R9 290 with 3 GB of VRAM, roughly the AMD Radeon HD 7950 tier. The recommended CPU is an Intel Core i5 3470 or AMD FX 8120, roughly comparable to an Intel Core i3-4130. The main gap between minimum and recommended is the graphics card: the recommended tier lets you run higher settings, but both are older hardware.
The official RAM figures are 6 GB minimum and 8 GB recommended. Storage needs 27 GB. The publisher does not require an SSD, and no higher SSD tier is listed, so a hard drive works, though an SSD will noticeably shorten loading times.
Recommended builds for three budgets
The entry build pairs an AMD Radeon RX 6500 XT with an AMD Ryzen 3 3100 and 16 GB of RAM. The RX 6500 XT meets the official recommended requirement, and the Ryzen 3 3100 is well above the recommended CPU tier. This suits players who mainly want the game to run smoothly without chasing top settings. Entry cards usually have only 4 GB of VRAM, so lower the settings that consume the most memory.
The mainstream build pairs an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 Super with an Intel Core i3-10100F and 16 GB of RAM. Both parts are well above the official recommended level, which leaves comfortable headroom at most settings. It is a good value choice for players who want more breathing room without spending heavily.
The high-end build pairs an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2070 Super with an AMD Ryzen 5 5600 and 32 GB of RAM. Both are well above the recommended requirements, supporting higher settings and giving room for longer use. The 32 GB is mainly for multitasking and future needs; 16 GB is already enough for this game alone.
Graphics settings with the biggest impact
In open-world action games like this one, the settings that usually cost the most are shadows, volumetric lighting and fog, crowd and traffic density, view distance, and reflection or ray-tracing options. Shadow resolution and distance noticeably affect GPU load, so set shadows to medium first; the visual difference is usually small. Volumetrics and fog look striking at night but are expensive, so reduce them if your card has less VRAM.
Crowd and traffic density affect both CPU and GPU, especially in busy city areas. View distance is another large cost, and lowering it often gives a noticeable gain. If your graphics card supports upscaling such as DLSS, FSR or XeSS, rendering at a lower internal resolution and scaling up can strike a good balance between image quality and smoothness. Anti-aliasing is more a matter of taste and usually costs less than shadows.
Laptops and handheld PCs
Laptop graphics chips often share names with desktop cards, such as RTX models, but laptop versions have lower power limits and weaker cooling, so real performance is often well below the desktop equivalent. When buying a laptop, check the card's power (TGP) figure and the cooling design. While playing, set the power mode to high performance and keep vents clear to avoid thermal slowdown.
Handheld PCs such as the Steam Deck or ROG Ally are portable computers designed around battery life and thermals. They suit lower graphics settings combined with upscaling. We have no verification data for handhelds on this page, so this is general guidance only; check other players' reports for real-world experience.
Storage and memory
The official RAM figures are 6 GB minimum and 8 GB recommended, but our builds use 16 GB throughout. Sixteen gigabytes leaves headroom between the game and background programs and reduces stutter from memory pressure. If your board supports it, install memory in dual-channel mode, for example two 8 GB sticks, which helps overall and integrated-graphics performance.
The official storage requirement is 27 GB. Leave extra space for updates and any later add-ons. The publisher does not require an SSD, but an SSD noticeably shortens loading and reading times, so it is worth using one if your budget allows.
